Household surveys and quantitative studies
The
Survey Division of ESA Consultores is one of the most experienced quantitative
investigation organizations in the Central American region. We have in
our full-time staff experts in sampling, fieldwork quality supervision
and control, and database management. We have the infrastructure, hardware
and software, the experience, and all the logistics necessary to carry
out large-scale surveys.
Among the survey and census work carried out by ESA Consultores are the
following: a census of 75,000 homes in 70 municipalities as part of the
targeting exercise of the Honduran government's Family Allowance Program
(PRAF), and more than 20 large surveys, with samples up to 6,000 and using
complicated questionnaires that have included, among others, anthropometrical
components and the physical measurement of soil chemistry. Several of
these studies have been implemented in cooperation with institutions internationally
renowned for high quality quantitative research, such as the International
Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and the Universities of Wisconsin
and Wageningen.
A particular area of our expertise in survey work is that of contingent
valuation surveys, which we have conducted in 12 cities in seven different
countries for the World Bank and the IDB, along with the concomitant econometric
analysis required to determine willingness to pay for public goods and
services in the populations studied. Other surveys conducted by ESA have
included: a national census of micro enterprises in Honduras, and three
apparel industry employee surveys for USAID; a KAP survey (Knowledge,
Attitudes and Practices) of health services in Honduras for the Japanese
cooperation, JICA; surveys of health and education employees for the IDB,
agrarian surveys for the Universities of Wageningen and Wisconsin; surveys
for the social evaluation of improvement projects in low income neighborhoods
in Caracas, Managua and Guatemala for the World Bank and a survey for
the Ex-post evaluation of the Honduran Fund of Social Investment for the
World Bank. We also have an installed capacity in Geographic Information
Systems (GIS), including georeferenced resources on socioeconomic and
environmental conditions in Honduras, based on ARC VIEW and CAD.
